bahwa Rasulullah SAW mengutus dirinya untuk suatu misi, yaitu menemui
kafilah suku Quraisy, pemimpin misi itu bernama Abu Ubaidah. Untuk
melaksanakan misi tersebut, mereka pun mempersiapkan bekal berupa satu
kantong buah kurma.

tersebut. Oleh karenanya, sebagai pemimpin misi, Abu Ubaidah pun membagi
dan memberi kurma kepada anggota rombongan satu demi satu.
Jabir berkata, “Apa yang kita perbuat dengan buah kurma ini?”
Kemudian semua menjawab, “Isaplah kurma itu seperti anak kecil yang sedang menyusu.”
Mereka
pun mengikuti saran itu lalu meminum air. Ternyata hal itu memberikan
mereka cukup tenaga hingga malam. Mereka kemudian bergerak menuju tepi
laut. Di sana mereka menemukan sebuah benda yang tampak seperti bukit
pasir yang besar. Setelah dihampiri ternyata benda itu adalah seekor
ikan paus.
Abu Ubaidah berkata, “Itu adalah bangkai.”
Jabir
menjawab, “Bukan. Apalagi kita adalah utusan Rasulullah Saw. untuk
sebuah urusan di jalan Allah sehingga kita sedang dalam keadaan darurat.
Oleh karenanya, makanlah daging binatang ini.”
Jabir melanjutkan
ceritanya bahwa selama satu bulan mereka yang berjumlah 300 orang makan
dengan daging ikan paus itu hingga tubuh mereka menjadi gemuk. Tidak
hanya itu saja, mereka pun mengambil minyak dari cekungan bola mata ikan
raksasa itu. Minyak yang diperoleh mereka cukup banyak hingga minyak
itu dingin dan membeku seperti potongan keju.
Kemudian Abu Ubaidah
mengajak 13 orang di antara mereka untuk menahan tubuh ikan itu dengan
cara menduduki bagian cekungan matanya. Lalu mereka mengambil tulang
rusuknya dan menegakkannya, kemudian mengikatkannya pada unta yang
paling besar.
Salah satu di antara mereka yang bertubuh tinggi
besar menaiki unta itu, kemudian ia memotong-motong daging bangkai ikan
itu dengan irisan memanjang. Mereka pun membawa pulang daging-daging
tersebut.
Setelah sampai di Kota Madinah, Rasulullah Saw. menyambut mereka. Lalu mereka pun menceritakan apa yang sudah terjadi.
Rasulullah
Saw. berkata kepada mereka, “Ikan besar itu rezeki dari Allah untuk
kalian. Apakah kalian membawa sebagian dari dagingnya untuk kita makan
bersama-sama?” Lalu mereka membawa daging-daging itu kepada Rasulullah
Saw. dan menikmatinya bersama-sama.
Disebutkan bahwa semua bangkai hukumnya haram untuk dimakan, kecuali bangkai hewan air (ikan) dan belalang.
